LUCIFER

Interview with Aimee Garcia: A fan's perspective.
Almost two weeks ago, we went to Film and Comic Con in Birmingham. It was an unforgettable experience and we got the chance to interview Aimee Garcia, Ella Lopez on Lucifer. As fans of the show, we wanted to focus the interview on a fan's perspective. Here you have the result!

The first one has become a classic question: How do you feel about the show cancellation? We hate to ask this, but unfortunately...
My heart is broken. I love the cast, I love the writers, I love our fans... It's a really special show and I think it's really strange having a show, writers, fans, that are so nice. So, for me it's really sad because I loved going to work everyday. I woke up everyday excited. I loved Ella Lopez because she was so positive, because she was the only Latin female scientist in TV... She always enhances love.
You really fit in with the character, that's for sure.
Yes, thank you. I love that she's so trusty, and that people see themselves on her. I felt really proud because she was Latina, but also super intelligent, scientist, had a big heart... I'm not ready to say goodbye to her.
I believe no one is ready to say goodbye to Ella, nor to anyone on Lucifer. About the fans' movement... What do you think? How do you feel about everything we are doing? Everyone is leaving no stone unturned...
I get goose bumps. Honestly, even just hearing the question I get goose bumps... People from Spain, Brazil, and... England, Germany, USA, Australia... I mean, it's an honor being part of such a project and a story that really touch people's hearts all around the world.
I think it's really weird. For example, there was a tweet that said: "Let's make an Ella Twitter thread", then everyone was giving virtual hugs around the world. And I said "Wow! Ella is so positive, now everyone is hugging each other on Twitter." And I think that's really, really special. And the only reason why they may pick us up for a fourth season is because of the fans.
We've been cancelled and the fans, hundred per cent, one thousand percent... Worldwide. We are being considered for a fourth season just because of the fans. I feel proud. They are asking for it, we are asking for it. We want fans to know that they are listening and we are there fighting by their side.
Well, and if Lucifer gets picked up... What would you like to see in season 4 for Ella? Which storylines, relationships would you like for her? (friendship, love interests...) What do you expect to see?
I'd love to see more about Azrael. I'd love to see more about how Lucifer... I don't know... I'd love that Ella was actually Elaine Belloc from the comic books, and that she was actually like Lucifer's little sister, or something like that.
I would love to shoot more scenes with Tom because I had a blast shooting Vegas' episode. I'd like to have more scenes with him. I really love working with Lauren too. I mean, I love working with all of them. I'd like if Ella could have a romance, who knows... But I like that she's single and so confident. I love that.
I would like to see more about her family, like knowing more about her other brothers, I would love to meet her grandmother... So I would love to learn more about Ella's family. Her grandmother seems... like she will be funny, right?
Yes, it would be fantastic to know more about her family. People is really curious about knowing more of her background, about what she does outside her job... Something we all have been wondering, probably even you, how do you think Lucifer's big reveal to Ella would be? Ella is a very religious character... If she saw Lucifer's true face, how would she react?
She would give him a hug, because she doesn't judge. I think she believes that everyone, even the Devil, can be forgiven. For me that's the true message of Jesus Christ. Loving everyone the same. So, for me Ella is a person with a heart so big that if he said "I am Lucifer", she would ask him things, give him a hug and I don't know... She wouldn't judge him.
That would be really beautiful. Something fantastic to see. For you, was it a surprise the introduction of Azrael? Were you surprised when you read the script or did you expect it?
Well, the writers told me beforehand. They told me that Ella was going to have her best friend, that she almost died when she was five and, then, Azrael came... I like it because people always say that Lucifer and Ella have that big brother-little sister relationship. So I really love that Ella's best friend is actually Lucifer's little sister, because that brought Ella to their family. Now Ella is not only someone with whom Lucifer works, but also family.
When the episode "Boo Normal" aired, it really moved the audience. Everyone loved the final scene between Lucifer and Ella. Everyone was so touched and now they want, need to see more of them. Us too.
Yeah, we really get along and love working together.

We need to see more about Lucifer and Ella. The brother-sister relationship... Everyone would love to see more of them. What would you like to explore?
I would like to see more about her childhood. I would love to see Ella when she was five years old, wearing big glasses, or whatever... Speaking Spanish, or maybe the time when she was a criminal, because Ella wasn't always... She's not a saint. She doesn't have a perfect life. I would like to explore a little bit more about that part, about that chapter of her life.
In “Boo Normal” it was also explored Ella's ability to see ghosts; Alexia Gil, a girl from Twitter (@AlexiaGil7), wants to know if it has changed your way of portraying Ella or your perception of her, since now you know more of her background. Do you believe in ghosts or spirits?
I'm writing a comic about a latin scientist and, yes, I do believe in spirits and energy. I believe people don't go forever when they die. I believe in that.
In that way, you're connected to Ella too, right?
Yes, I'm very similar to Ella. She's perhaps more intelligent, but that's all. I put a lot of myself and my heart in Ella.
When you read the character, what did you say...?
“I'm going to put all of my heart here”.
Would you like to speak more Spanish in the show?
Yes, a lot more! They write a little here and there, but Spanish is my first language, so I'd love Ella to speak more Spanish.
A girl named Emmyleigh (@EmmyleighWint) thinks it would be interesting to see Lucifer and Ella speaking Spanish, since Lucifer speaks all languages.
Yes, I would love to! I'm going to see Tom in London tomorrow, and I'm going to start teaching him Spanish.
Lucifer speaking Spanish would also be very interesting. It'd be something really nice to see.
He could be Spanish. He has those traits. Dark eyes and hair... Tom could be Spanish, I have to train him. I'm going to start tomorrow.
Jennifer (@jennmalkeller) asks if it's difficult to portray a character who's always happy and optimistic, or if it's something easy for you due to your own personality.
It's very easy, the difficult thing is the opposite... I'm very optimistic and cheerful, I like to trasmit that to Ella, it's easy for me.

How do you think Ella has evolved? In which aspects has she improved? This is a question from LuciFan01 (@LuciFan01).
We have known her family, I think she realised that the world it's not only... I mean, I think in Azrael's episode she wanted to be normal for the first time. And Azrael said: "Who wants to be normal? Normal it's boring." Then she said: "You know what? You're right. I'm gonna continue being myself, but also also I'm going to accept my past."
That's something really important and a valuable life lesson to everyone who has seen the episode...
Exactly. I like that she's so confident about who she is. She's not perfect, not the prettiest, not the tallest... But she is herself. I try to encourage people to say: "This is me and I accept it. That's it."
We think Ella transmit authentic values to the audience and because of that, so many people can feel identified. Particularly, we have a lot of Latin female followers on Twitter who really love your character. They feel really represented thanks to you.
Thank you! I'm starting to write a comic book and I want to see Ella in the center of everything.
Do you have some BTS (behind the scenes) funny story that you would like to tell?
Lauren is such a prankster. One of my favorite things is when I make Lauren laugh. When we are filming, she always looks at the floor and is dressed like the detective... Looking at the floor all the time... When I get her to laugh, I say: "I won, I won, I made her laugh!". We're always laughing.
You all really enjoy yourselves while shooting. Fans really love it when you upload videos, BTS pictures... You make us feel like we are a family. Even if we are not there, we feel like if we actually were. It make us feel connected to you and also helps us.
Yes, that's really good because we are a family!
Would you like to say something to the LuciFans?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you... We would not have gotten a third season without you. We really have the best fans in the world. I totally mean it and I feel so proud of them, they have a big heart and I never... I have been on Dexter, I have been on Supernatural... Supernatural also have its fans, and Dexter, but Lucifer fans are so, so special. I feel so connected to them. And for that, thank you. And thank you for giving us a life. Maybe the Angel of Death comes here, because of the fans. Thank you.
